From Text Chat to Live Video: How AI Video Chat Turns Interactive Stories Into Something You Can Actually Talk To
Most of the AI tools that help you invent a character still keep that character on a page of text. You type a line, wait for a paragraph, and imagine the rest. That works for notes and first drafts. It is a weaker fit if what you actually want is presence: a face, a voice, and a scene that answers you in real time.
Prelulu is built around that gap. It is a place for AI video stories you can talk to — interactive AI stories that move from chat into a live, face-to-face call with an AI character. The call is AI video chat, not a clip you generate and then watch. The character speaks, shows expression, and you can interrupt mid-sentence the way you would in a real conversation.

A new interaction pattern for storytelling
Designers and writers have spent years stitching mood boards, animatics and prototype videos into something that feels like a scene. Real-time AI video changes the sequence. Instead of rendering a beat and hoping it lands, you stay inside the beat. You start the story in chat — setting, character, what just happened — and when you want to be in the room, you continue the same scene on a live video call. The plot does not pause while a file exports. The character keeps the thread and answers back, with voice.
That is closer to directing a rehearsal than to commissioning a finished shot. You can test a character’s tone, adjust how they hold themselves in conversation, and feel whether a scene has enough tension before you commit it to a static storyboard. For character designers, it is a way to hear and see a persona instead of only writing a bio. For narrative designers, it is a way to walk a scene rather than describe it.
How the live call works
Prelulu runs on its own avatar model, so the face, expressions and lip movement are generated live rather than pulled from pre-recorded clips. Response latency is about 200–300 ms, by the founder’s own measurements, which is what makes interruption feel natural. Live AI video roleplay and story scenes are already in the product: you can step into a scene with a character, stay in chat when that is enough, and jump to video when you want the conversation to happen face to face.
You can also create your own characters, then take those characters into the same live call. The idea is cast first, then scene: a character you designed becomes someone you can actually talk to.
What this is — and is not
This is not a replacement for film tools, and it is not a batch video generator. The interesting part for creative work is the loop: write a beat, speak it, hear it come back, adjust the character, try again. Interactive AI stories used to mean branching text. Real-time AI video makes the branch something you can sit across from.
Prelulu is available on the web and on iOS. It is for people 16 and older. Welcome credits cover a short first call, free daily text, then credits.
Prelulu is made by TheInfluence Inc. in San Mateo, California.
